What is a Healthy Relationship?
A healthy relationship is the one where both/all the members feel safe and unconditional affection. Mutual trust and respect is considered to be the foundation of any healthy relationship. Also, positive communication with conflict management helps to resolve any conflicts that may arise. Healthy relationships affect our physical, emotional, social and personal health. It also determines our quality of life and functionality in various domains.

KEY COMPONENTS OF HEALTHY RELATIONSHIPS
1. SELF – AWARENESS
Self-Awareness means knowing oneself, which includes our strengths, limitations, triggers, moods, emotions, feelings, motivation and coping patterns. Knowing ourselves helps us to understand why we behavior and get affected by others in a certain way. Also self-awareness will help us express our emotions with others in a better way.
2. COMMUNICATION SKILLS
Communication is the way we express ourselves to others and understand others too. It includes verbal and non-verbal of expressions. If our communication is effective we can easily find out solutions to our problems, build a healthy relationship with trust and affection.
3. TRUST BUILDING
Trust is the foundation of healthy relationships. Having a strong belief that we and others are honest in the relationships helps stay motivated to maintain and strengthen relationships. Trust helps in different components in a relationship such as reducing misunderstanding, resolving conflicts together and mutual respect of each other.
4. DEALING WITH THE CONFLICTS
No relationship is free from conflicts. Since we all are different from each other, our thoughts, feelings, perspectives, coping styles, expression and priorities may vary too. Conflicts often arise from these differences and may become problematic if we aren’t able to manage it at the foundation level. It is important to acknowledge that we humans are social beings and we are internally motivated to maintain relationships.
5. SPENDING QUALITY TIME TOGETHER
Having fun together helps to inculcate the feeling of joy in a relationship. It builds good memory which in turn will foster resolving conflicts easily. It boosts our confidence on other and helps to understand each other in a positive way.
